Walking for Charlotte Supporting Hugs
Back in 2015 around 50 Harriers fans walked from Kidderminster Harriers FC to Telford United FC raising £20,000 for a local charity that helps bereaved parents. The KHIST event totalling 37 miles was in support of Beckie and Dave Pountney (former KHIST Chairman), who’s daughter Charlotte was stillborn the year before.
Beckie struggled greatly after losing Charlotte, with her mental and physical health, consequently she didn’t do the walk herself, She was involved in every aspect of organising, fundraising, support on the day and completed the final 10 miles from Ironbridge to telford but she couldn’t manage the full distance.
So…… On the 20th of June, which is Charlottes 7th birthday and father’s day, Beckie and Dave will be walking from Kidderminster to Ironbridge so Beckie can complete the walk at last! They will set off from Kidderminster, walking to Bewdley and along the River Severn following the same route that was taken in the original walk.
They are doing this to raise funds for HUGS (www.hugs.org.uk). A charity that Beckie is a trustee for. They provide hospitals with memory boxes which are designed to help parents make memories with their babies in the very short time they have together. They provide both early loss boxes and later loss boxes. The boxes contain items such as 2 teddies (one for the parent to keep and one to stay with baby), photo frame, candle, inkless wipes, clay to take hand and foot prints, sd card, notebook and pen to write thoughts and memories down, as well as many leaflets, information etc. Beckie and Dave received a memory box themselves and know the comfort they bring at a time of such grief.
