KHFC vs Cambridge United – KHIST POTM Man of the Match – Vote Now!
Harriers moved into 4th position in the Blue Square Bet Premier yesterday with a deserved 3-2 victory over Cambridge United at Aggborough, which continued our fantastic record against the U’s who have won only once in DY10 since 1959.
Chey Dunkley opened the scoring for Harriers midway through the second half as he turned in Anthony Malbon’s sharp cross, before Marvin Johnson’s neat finish with his low-angled drive put the hosts two goals to the good. There was a minor hiccup before half-time as Josh Gowling, who picked up the KHIST Player of the Month Award for January before kick-off, could only divert a header across goal into his own net to give Cambridge a sniff going into the half-time break.
But it was Harriers who really made their pressure count in the early exchanges of the second half as Malbon, who hadn’t scored for Harriers since the 1-1 draw with Gateshead in October, finished a one-on-one to end his goal drought infront of the Town End. Harriers couldn’t add to their tally in a one-sided second half and Michael Gash’s headed goal for United late on even made for a nervy last few moments but Harriers were good value for their win.
Johnson’s all-action display earned him the Sponsor’s Man of the Match Award whilst there was an encouraging debut for Macclesfield loan-man Amari Morgan-Smith. Malbon returned to goalscoring form and Danny Lewis, making his 100th appearance inbetween the sticks for Harriers, made a crucial save early on, but who was your Star Man?
