Charity Trek in Memory of Ian Nash – Shuttle Article
TWO friends will be taking on a 43-mile charity trek in memory of Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporter’s Trust (KHIST) chairman Ian Nash.
Dave Lewis and Dave Poutney will be raising money for charity HUGS on the walk, which offers services to bereaved parents and their families.
Mr Lewis said: “I have been a lifelong supporter of Kidderminster Harriers FC, and in 2017 I joined my good friend Ian Nash on the board of the supporter’s trust (KHIST) as treasurer.
“In May 2021 while out walking Ian collapsed and sadly passed away. On hearing the news while out walking myself I knew I needed to do something to honour his name and soon decided to follow the tradition KHIST has of walking to a Harriers away fixture in aid of charity.
“Once the fixtures were released for the 2021-22 season of the National League North I was able to select a match, Leamington FC on May 2nd, and start planning the route.
“The route is now planned and hotel booked, so at 06:00 on Sunday 1st May myself and Dave Pountney, friend and former KHIST board member, will meet at Aggborough Stadium Kidderminster to walk the 33 miles to our overnight stop at Hatton Locks, on the Grand Union Canal on the outskirts of Warwick.
“Monday morning we will walk the remaining 10 miles along the canal to Leamington and then out to the Your Co-op Community Stadium to enjoy the final away game of the season.
“We will be walking in Ian’s memory raising money for HUGS www.hugs.org.uk, a local charity close to Ian’s heart.
“They provide local hospitals with keepsake boxes filled with gifts to help parents make memories with their baby in the short time that they get to spend together at the hospital. They can also offer one to one meetings, phone support, group meetings or chat via emails”.
