Jon Purdie, the KHIST Honorary President (UK) and former Kidderminster Harriers player, joined supporters before the match against Chorley. Purdie was accompanied by former Harriers forward Delwyn Humphreys. Both ex-players mingled with fans at the Harriers Social Club, sharing fond memories of their playing days and swapping stories.

Purdie and Humphreys are perhaps best remembered for their pivotal roles in the Harriers’ memorable FA Cup run during the 1993/94 season, when the team reached the fifth round of the world’s most prestigious club competition. Their journey began with a 4-1 victory over Chesham United in the Fourth Qualifying Round, with Humphreys netting twice. Harriers then triumphed 3-0 at home against league rivals Kettering Town in the first round, followed by a narrow 1-0 win over fellow Conference side Woking in the second round, thanks to a Richard Forsyth penalty.

The most remarkable victory came in the third round, where they defeated First Division Birmingham City 2-1 at St Andrews, with goals from Neil Cartwright and Purdie. Harriers then continued their fairy-tale run with a 1-0 win over Division Two side Preston North End at Aggborough, courtesy of a second-half goal from the outstanding Humphreys. This incredible journey still resonates with the club’s supporters and showcases the abiding legacy of Purdie and Humphreys.
