Harriers supporters team 3 Exeter supporters team 2
It was another early start on Saturday as the Harriers supporters team travelled down the M5 to take on Exeter for the first time. It was another impressive turnout by the Harriers as manager Dave Pountney had a squad of 14 players to choose from. The game was played at the very impressive Woodbury Park on the outskirts of Exeter which had a pitch that most conference clubs would envy.
Just like the following first team fixture the game was disrupted by gale force winds and it was the Harriers who kicked against it in the first half. Despite the conditions it was the Harriers who took the lead through top scorer David Greaves after 5 minutes with a clinical finish after springing the offside trap. With the wind behind their backs Exeter soon got the equaliser and then took the lead with the goal of the game. After a clearance by Harriers goalkeeper Dave Ackerley the ball fell to an Exeter player on the half way line who then proceded to lob the Kiddy goalkeeper. Just before half time though Kiddy dew level as captain Tom Sharland was brought down in the box and John Wenham despatched the penalty in style.
It was a different game in the second half as Harriers with the help of the wind spent most of the half attacking the Exeter goal. Despite almost constant pressure it took until ten minutes from time for the Harriers to grab the winner. Following good work by Ed Dursley and David Geaves the ball fell to Dave Pountney in the area who made no mistake with a sweet left foot finish.
It was a good performance by the Harriers who managed to get back to winning ways in a match unfotunately heavily influenced by a strong wind. The game was played in a good spirit and hopefully will be the first of many games between our two clubs. The supporters team are back in action again this Saturday at our old rivals Cambridge United.
