The Steve Millington Memorial Cup
Hereford Fans 0 – 4 Harriers’ Fans
The Harriers Fans’ team was:
Shaun Connolly, Mike Peplow, Mark Young, Steve Perry, Colin Jordon, Dave Goode, Matt Allen, Ben Allen, Sam Palmer Young, Shaun Green, Dave Pountney, Marc Stones and Dave Williams.
Our fans team ensured the Steve Millington trophy returned to Worcestershire on New Year’s Day with an impressive victory. After a lengthy break from action, the KHIST side fielded an ‘experienced’ 13 man squad for this local derby.
The game was played in memory of former KHIST chairman Steve Millington with all proceeds going towards Macmillan Cancer Support. Steve played an integral part with KHIST whilst also offering advice to Hereford during their problems.
Hereford started the game strongly but it was Harriers who got the first goal. Marc Stones found space 20 yards out and floated the ball into the corner of the net. Harriers continued to defend solidly and doubled their lead when Steve Perry connected with a corner kick, to the delight of the four travelling fans.
As the second half started Hereford continued to have plenty of the ball but some excellent defending restricted the hosts to just a few chances. The match was over as a contest though when Dave Goode scored a delightful third goal, by lobbing the keeper from 30 yards. Sam Palmer Young then added a fourth, on his debut, to give the scoreline a flattering look in an impressive team performance.
An entertaining game played in a great spirit and with an excellent defensive display from Harriers. Both sides helped to raise the magnificent sum of £111 for Macmillan Cancer Support and will now look forward to renewing the rivalry next Christmas.
